Greetings! Welcome to Spring Semester 2010,
In reviewing the blog from last semester, we have decided to create a new one to start with a clean slate. Of course, if there is any material that you would like to reference on the old blog, feel free to access it at any time.
Our main objective for the Mentoring Program has not really changed--but to reiterate; our goal should be to get more discussion going with ALL TUTORS. This includes blogging, discussions on the orange couch with colleagues, participating in Tutor Training Workshops, and talking to any tutors in the Learning Studio. These discussions should focus on the effectiveness of tutoring strategies in all sessions. Ideally, all of these activities should foster a cohesive sense of community.
On the blog specifically we are looking for your postings to provide information that is honest, candid, and expresses realistic expectations of each mentee's progress as a writing tutor. To facilitate this goal, once again we emphasize that weekly postings/responses are MANDATORY and the content should be substantive, relevant, and of good quality. That said, we would like to offer some potential points to include in your postings:
*Note-Taking While Observing Every Session
--Session Characteristics(Frequency, Length of Sessions, Body language, Demeanor, Interaction between tutor and student, Pace and Tone, Completion of Material,
Overall Structure etc.)
--Session Variables
*Troubleshooting Strategies
*Responses/Reactions to Other Mentors' Blog Posts
*Session Attendance of Mentees
*General Questions/Concerns
Look forward to talking with you and reading your posts.
-Steve B. and Brian W.
